This is one of the great Marrakech evenings, and it has lost none of its swagger. Chez Ali recreates an entire kasbah on the edge of town: crenellated walls, embroidered caidal tents, riders in burnous and hundreds of guests gathered around the braziers.
We collect you from your hotel or riad in the early evening. On arrival you are seated under a tent for a traditional Moroccan dinner: harira, pastilla, mechoui or tagine, couscous, honey pastries and mint tea, served while folk troupes from across the country take turns in the arena — Atlas Berbers, Gnaoua, Ahouach dancers and Chikhates.
The highlight is the fantasia: around a hundred riders charging down the arena and firing their powder rifles in a single crack. Acrobats follow, then the storyteller, and the flying carpet crossing the sky above the tents.
You are back at your hotel around midnight. An evening that works particularly well for families and groups.
