Leave the bustle of Marrakech behind for the cool air of the High Atlas. Just an hour's drive away, the Ourika Valley unfolds its terraced fields, red-earth villages clinging to the mountainside and a river lined with poplar trees.
You are picked up in the morning from your riad or hotel. Along the way you can stop at an argan oil cooperative and a Berber herbalist, then visit a traditional house where your host explains how the families of the valley live.
You then reach Setti Fatma, the starting point of the hike up to the seven waterfalls. A local guide takes you to the first fall — around 45 minutes of walking on a rocky path; the higher falls are best left to confident walkers.
Lunch is served on a terrace right beside the river: tagine, grilled skewers or couscous depending on the day. The afternoon is free to stroll along the water before heading back to Marrakech at the end of the day.
